Final MML Championship Postscript

#1 Gator Bait vs. #2 Deep Valley Grouchos

11pm eastern

It’s Thursday night and the championship is being decided as you read this since all players with games remaining from both teams will be playing.

The DVG’s had two players with games. Myron Gardner and super frosh Brandon Noel. Gardner had just 13 in his first game and that gave him a high ceiling for improvement as he averaged around 22 fppg during the season. However, a 3-13 showing with an unusual (for him) 5 turnovers held his total to 18 despite his gathering 11 rebounds. Still, that was a positive bump up of 2.5. Noel, despite dealing with some foul trouble which saw his first half minutes limited, wound up tallying 30 fantasy points. Since he scored 20 in his first game, that was a bump of+5. DVG’s finish at 168.0

Gator Bait entered the day down 1.5 First up for them was Max Abmas. Abmas went for 24 his first time around but tallied just 18. That resulted in a 3.0 loss. Mushila was next in line. He had 17 his first game and totaled 23 for a bump up of 3.0-so, GB remains the same thus far with The Podman, Podziemski of Santa Clara & Timme of Gonzaga still waiting to check in. However, they scored 35 & 36 respectively, in their opening games and would each need to score 45 & 44 respectively, for GB to pull it out.

Update: At the half, Podziemski is on his way to a possible record rebounding night with 11 at the half but he is just 2-9 from the field and has 10 fantasy points at the half, meaning he needs 30+ to help out his buddy Timme…

…The fat lady hasn’t sung yet because she’s still finishing her dessert…but, she’s getting ready to wash it down…looking like a DVG victory at the moment…

Midnight:
Gator Bait is still alive!

Wow! Is Romar (Pepperdine) the world’s worst defensive coach?! Podziemski gets 18 rebounds and 21 fga’s up to log 40 fantasy points!!!

That is a gain of 2.5 since he scored 35 earlier in the week.

As a basketball guy I knew Rick Majerus, the former Utah coach. And, his philosophy was to cut off the head of the snake and see if the body had enough life to get you. In other words, he always schemed to take the other team’s best player out of the game and see if the other guys could step up. Few could.

Romar seems to believe in doing it the other way. Try to stop everybody but the other team’s best player…geesh!

Timme has 20 fantasy points at the half and needs to total 48 for Gator Bait to tie the DVG’s…

1215am:
Timme has 30 fantasy points with 16 minutes to go in the 2nd half…it’s all over, all right…all over for the DVG’s…I don’t see how USD can keep Timme under 48 fantasy points unless Few decides to rest him as they are killing USD, already up 24…

…Congrats to the victors!

Gator Bait you deserve it. Your studs came through!!!

1252am:
Well…Only his own coach could stop Timme from racing past 48 fantasy points and a Gator Bait title…USD was getting their butt kicked so bad that Gonzaga HC Mark Few gave Timme the night off early…Timme finishes with 37 fantasy points, just a .5 bump and the DVG’s are the champs…not really the way I like to win since Timme looked like he was on his way to a fifty-burger, or, “fitty,” but, I’ve had that happen to me and it’s just part of fantasy basketball…
